BTS (Korean revised romanization: Bangtan Sonyeondan) is a South Korean boy group formed in Seoul in 2010 and debuted in 2013 under Big Hit Music. It is made up of seven members: Jin, Suga, Jimin, RM, J-Hope, V and Jungkook, who co-write and co-produce most of their record material. Despite being created in a primarily hiphop style, has come to incorporate a wide variety of genres into its musical repertoire.

Following their debut single album 2 Cool 4 Skool in 2013, BTS released the EPs O!RUL8,2? (2013) and Skool Luv Affair (2014), as well as their first studio album, Dark & ​​Wild (2014). Beginning in 2015 they began to establish their reputation as a socially conscious group with their series releases The Most Beautiful Moment in Life: Part 1 (2015), Part 2 (2016), and Young Forever (2016). He continued to extend this image with Wings, which was his first record to sell over a million copies in South Korea, and with his You Never Walk Alone reissue. By 2017 he entered the global music market as the main promoter of the Korean Wave, especially in the United States, and broke multiple sales records. He became the first Korean artist to receive certification from the RIAA, with his single " MIC Drop "; topping the Billboard 200 with Love Yourself: Tear (2018), and going platinum in the US with Love Yourself: Answer (2018). In addition, he had four number one albums in the US in less than two years, a milestone that no band had achieved since The Beatles. He did it between 1995 and 1996. On the other hand, in 2020 he was the first artist to simultaneously lead the Billboard Global 200 and the Billboard Hot 100, with his single —nominated for a Grammy— “Dynamite”. He later repeated this with "Savage Love", "Life Goes On", "Butter" and "Permission to Dance", racking up five number one singles in the US and becoming the fastest-acting artist to do so. from Michael Jackson, who got it between 1987 and 1988.

BTS is the best-selling artist in South Korean history, with over thirty million on the Gaon Music Chart, and holds the record for the best-selling album in that country with Map of the Soul: 7 . He is also the first and only non-English speaking artist to be named IFPI 's Global Artist of the Year (2020), to be on Billboard's Top Touring Artists of the 2010s list, and to play a concert—with all the sold-out tickets—at Wembley Stadium. On the other hand, Time magazineincluded them on the cover of its international edition as «Leaders of the new generation» and they have appeared in several of its lists; they were among the 25 most influential people on the Internet, from 2017 to 2019, and among the 100 most influential people in the world in 2019, in which they were dubbed "Princes of Pop".

The group has received numerous accolades for their work, including six American Music Awards, nine Billboard Music Awards, and nominations at the Grammy Awards and Brit Awards . After establishing his Love Myself anti-violence campaign, in collaboration with UNICEF, he gave a speech at both the 73rd and 75th United Nations General Assembly. In addition, its members are the youngest recipients of the Order of Cultural Merit , awarded by the president of South Korea for helping to spread the Korean culture and language in the world.
