Actor ‘Choi Min-young’ as 'Dae' in Netflix "XO, Kitty"
Actor 'Choi Min-young' (21) expressed
his thoughts on becoming a global star overnight.
'Choi Min-young' participated in the
Netflix original series "XO, Kitty" which was released on the 18th of
last month.
"XO, Kitty" is an American
romantic comedy drama released in May 2023 on Netflix. 'Choi Min-young' took on
the role of 'Dae', the boyfriend of 'Kitty'.
As a spin-off of the Netflix original
film "To All the Boys I've Loved Before" series, the main character
is 'Kitty', who appeared as the younger sister of the main character 'Lara
Jean' in the film.
'Choi Min-young' submitted his
application just 1 to 2 hours before the deadline on December 31, 2021.
"I had a vague desire to go to
Hollywood and wanted to experience the Hollywood audition process rather than
specifically wanting the role.
He was surprised when he got accepted.
The response was overwhelming. "XO, Kitty" reached the number one
spot in a total of 49 countries, including the United States, immediately after
its release.
Choi Min-young's social media
followers exceeded 900,000 in just over a month. Furthermore, Netflix
officially announced the production of "XO, Kitty" Season 2.
'XO, Kitty' is an American production,
but it is set in Seoul and was filmed in Seoul as well. It captivated the taste
of the global MZ generation, which is highly interested in Korea and K-content
by featuring young actors.
In a work where most of the dialogue
is in English, 'Choi Min-young' who speaks fluent English. He said, "Apart
from spending a year in Canada in the first grade of elementary school, I have
no experience of staying abroad. I've already forgotten it, but I had less
resistance to English." He also mentioned that actors from all over the
world stayed together in a hotel for several months and naturally improved
English.
'Choi Min-young' made his debut in the musical “Bread of Cloud” at the age of 10. 'Choi Min-young' started his activities with the support of his parents from elementary school.
