‘Jenny’ appeared on Dua Lipa's BBC podcast
'Jennie' made an appearance on Dua
Lipa's BBC podcast on Friday to talk about her life and career.
BLACKPINK member 'Jennie' has spoken
candidly about the challenges of being on stage, especially the frequent
injuries that have hindered her ability to perform to her fullest potential.
Recalling the early days of her career
in K-pop, 'Jennie' said "I started off as a rapper when I first debuted.
But gradually, I realized that I enjoyed singing far more than I did rapping,
which was a little bewildering at first. There were times when I experienced
total burnout and wanted to step away from the mic."
She also offered a reflection on her
career as an Idol star, saying "I felt I was being forced into expressing
just one side of myself, because of that, I felt hesitant about fully
expressing myself creatively later on." She added, "I want to break
down more barriers for the sake of those around me. I now believe there's
nothing wrong with being myself and that I'm not being held to a specific standard."
In response to the recent controversy
surrounding her 'lazy attitude' while dancing on stage, ‘Jennie’ explained
"I've been dealing with reoccurring injuries and it's been very stressful.
I make mistakes more often than my group mates, where I fall over and hurt
myself. But I know some fans are disappointed because it looks like I'm not
trying very hard on stage."
She added, "I didn't have good
control over my body. I've learned to take better care of myself physically
since the pandemic and I want to let the fans know that I'm still in the
process of learning more about what I can and can't do".
'Jennie' has been
traveling the world to meet global fans as part of BLACKPINK's ongoing world
tour.
