Squid Game-"Squid Game Day" & "The Emmy Awards"
Best Actor and Best Actress Award at the
27th, February, 2022 - Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG)
The U.S. city of Los Angeles (LA) has established "Squid Game Day" to celebrate the global achievements of Netflix's original "Squid Game." This is one of the reasons why we are even more expected about the upcoming Emmy Awards.
On September 7, L.A. City Councilman John Lee, who is of Korean descent, said the Los Angeles City Council has adopted a resolution to commemorate September 17 each year by designating it as "Squid Game Day." Sept. 17 is the day Netflix released the drama to the world last year.
Meanwhile, 'Squid Game' was nominated in a total of 13 categories and 14 nominations at the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony on 12th May. So far, there have been some rather high barriers to Korean content. However, 'Squid Game' has opened the door. It is the first time a non-English-speaking drama has been nominated for an Emmy Award.
Earlier, at the Creative Arts Primetime Emmy Awards held on 5 April, "Squid Game" started with the guest award of actor "Yu Mi" and was nominated for the 4th crown including the Production Design Award, the Stunt Performance Award, and the Visual Effects Award.
In the Primetime Emmy Awards, which can be considered the main game, the film award, the director award, the screenplay award, the Best Actor (Mr. Lee Jeong-jae), the Best Supporting Actor (Mr. Hae-su and Mr. Oh Young-so), and the Supporting Actress Award (Mr. Jeong Ho-yeon) were nominated.
'Squid Game' is a Korean film in which both the crew and cast are Koreans. If the 'Squid Game' protagonists, such as Lee Jeong-jae, win the final prize, they will continue the original record set by the previous films 'Parasite' and 'Minari'.
