Korea won Portugal to reach round of 16
Korea pulled off a 2-1
upset against Portugal on Saturday, achieved a feat of making the
knockout stage.
Korea are going to the
knockout stage of a FIFA World Cup for the third time in history, Portugal 2-1
on Friday.
Korea four points, good
enough for second place in Group H behind Portugal, who won the group with six
points.
In addition to beating Portugal, Korea also needed Uruguay to beat Ghana in the other Group H match of Friday and go to a tiebreak. Uruguay helped Korea by defeating Ghana 2-0.
'Kim Young-gwon' of Korea scored an equalizer at the 27 minute-mark, and Korea finally took the lead with a goal from 'Hwang Hee-chan', who scored 91 minutes into the match.
The injury bug plagued both 'Son Heung-min' and 'Kim Min-jae', each key players on offense and defense but 'Son Heung-min' braved the injury to lead their team to the knockout stage.
Korea will now face the Brazil, the winner of the Group G.
