‘Kakao Talk’- Out of Service!
Many
users are experiencing inconvenience as a number of affiliated services such as
Kakao's messenger application ‘Kakao Talk’ (the most used messenger
services in Korea), ‘Kakao Pay’, and ‘Kakao Navi’ have been disrupted by
the fire at 'the Pangyo data center' on the afternoon of the 15th.
KakaoTalk, messenger app is used by 90 percent of Koreans
and is becoming increasingly popular overseas. Business is conducted with it.
Companies employ it to keep workers in touch with each other. Institutions,
such as hospitals and the Post Office, use it for first line communication.
When it went down, an event communicated by the company via Twitter, lovers were cut off from each other and small businesses were unable to take orders.
Due to the fire at the SK C&C data center,
the Kakao messenger application (app) Kakao Talk's "dull" situation,
which began in the afternoon of the 15th, continues beyond the day. While
services such as 'Kakao Taxi' and 'Kakao Navi' are still experiencing access
problems, it has been confirmed that Daum's news service has been restored as
of 1 a.m. on the 16th. Kakao issued an apology message in the name of the CEO,
saying, "We are taking the best measures to normalize the service."
Since 3:30 p.m. the previous day, errors have
continued on Kakao Talk and portal site Daum, including many Kakao services,
which exceeded 9 hours and 30 minutes until 1 a.m. that day. This is because
the server service was cut off due to a fire at SK C&C Pangyo Data Center,
where Kakao moved in. Naver, which moved in together, also experienced some
service failures, but most of them were restored. Kakao said on Twitter that
some of the following news services were restored around midnight. However,
Daum's mail service was still found to have poor access.
